Easter Resurrection!

I remember reading a story about Rev. James Forbes, a renown preacher and pastor of Riverside Church in NYC that I have always loved for its simplicity yet depth. He was on a flight and was just meeting the passenger sitting next to him in that traditional "Hey, I am going to be within your personal space for the next xxx hours so we might as well be civil" conversation. The man goes on to ask, "So, what do you do?" Rev. Forbes said, with great drama and excitement, "I raise people from the dead!"

Haha, that poor guy was probably so confused. What? You're a vampire? A deranged mortician? But Rev. Forbes is right. Folks in the ministry business work on raising our poor, flailing souls back from the death grip of sin and evil and turning us into living, vibrant beings in the light and life of the resurrected Christ.

This is why I L-O-V-E Easter. It's so dramatic. A guy came back from the dead?! And yet so profound. His resurrection means that everything that holds us to our bodies, to this earth, to the inhumane condition of suffering within living has been cast off in one tremendous act of grace and love. If we were ever to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the true Christ, then the act of resurrection and all the events around his dying, death and coming back to life had to be over the top drama. Think over the top drama like a glitzy musical or like the overacting in the daytime soaps, or like anything done by Martin Lawrence. It had to be MORE THAN in order to be believed.

So the premise of this blog post is: Resurrection is nothing without a little bit of over the top drama. Much like the resurrection of this blog. It needs drama, and drama I will give. *Horns blaring, snare drums popping, and then a loud GONG!* I have dusted off the blog (last updated in March 2008! For SHAME), resolved to make another go at it, and make no promises that I will one day leave this blog lying by the wayside again.

You suck in your breath: "Doris! What an awful thing to say!"

Yeah, I know.  I'm a sinner.  A blog sinner, no less.  Just a bad ole' blog sinner, just killing the poor little blogs left and right.  LAWD, SAVE ME!  (See, the overacting works.)

But folks, I will try. I will reeeaaaalllllyyyyyy try. Here we go.  Resurrect!!
